How to use Thermocure on a Water-Cooled Engine

1. Drain

Drain coolant and add one quart of Thermocure Cooling System Rust Remover & Flush. If the cooling system is very rusty, it may be beneficial to flush the system with water before adding Thermocure.

2. Fill and Drive

Fill radiator to the top with water. Drive the vehicle for 3-4 hours up to several days to remove extensive rust. You may drive the car normally during this period. Once the engine has cooled completely, drain the cooling system.

3. Flush and Refill

Flush the cooling system 2-3 times with water until the water runs clear. Refill the cooling system with high-quality coolant mixed to the manufacturer’s specification with water. It is important to use good quality antifreeze to prevent future problems with your cooling system.

Important Tips about Thermocure

  • Do not use it in freezing temperatures. It doesn’t protect your engine from freezing.
  • Thermocure is non-toxic. However, the spent solution will have traces of antifreeze. You’ll need to dispose of it along with the antifreeze that you removed from the vehicle. Read here for how to safely dispose of antifreeze.
