That’s a great question. We’ve talked about this before. We have a lot of customers ask us about rust that happens after they use Evapo-Rust®. Although it’s the most effective and safest product you can use, regardless of your rust removal methods, there’s more to the story when it comes to how rust even happens to begin with. We do have a rust inhibitor, Rust-Block, that prevents rust for up to 6 months, but it helps to understand the cause of rust.

Our friends at The Rust Store put it perfectly:
“Rust is caused by exposed metal coming into contact with oxygen and moisture.”

The #1 thing you can do to keep rust away or slow it down is to control this oxygen meets moisture on exposed metal, whether you use Evapo-Rust® or not. (Seriously though, it’s the only thing worth using!) Keep things dry, covered, protected, and clean, and you’ll find that you’ll need to remove rust much less often. De-humidifiers, climate controlled rooms, and other tricks and tools to reduce moisture are a great start.

Our Evapo-Rust® directions include “To prevent flash rusting, dip the item back into solution. Then allow item to air dry. This will prevent rust for up to two weeks.” And we always encourage having a spray bottle of our easy to use Rust-Block rust inhibitor for a powerful boost. Aside from these two safe and effective rust products, we strongly promote our users keeping their metal safe and dry to reduce rust formation.
